About Us
Lovingly restored and architect-designed, Pond Cottage captures the essence of its agricultural origins — from weathered stone walls to ancient roof timbers — while offering guests the comfort of a modern country escape. Once rough pasture, the grounds have been transformed into three acres of gardens, with formal flower beds bursting with hundreds of roses and tranquil meadows to wander and enjoy. The perfect B&B spot for garden and nature lovers alike .
Meet Nicky
Pond Cottage is the home of Nicky Fussell. Following a career in business and academia, she now enjoys gardening, hiking, running, and good food—both cooking at home and dining out. With her three grown-up children having flown the nest, Nicky has transformed the family home and gardens into a welcoming retreat for guests to enjoy.
Our History
Pond Cottage began life in the mid-1800s as a modest cowshed, or byre, within the 30-acre Breadstone House estate. The main house, built in the 1700s, gained an ornate Gothic frontage in the 1840s and was awarded Grade II listed status in 1985.
In 1988, planning consent was granted to convert the redundant farm outbuildings into a private dwelling, though the work soon stalled. When the property was sold at auction in 1992, the conversion was unfinished and the site heavily overgrown, with the gardens little more than clay and rubble. Nicky and her former husband purchased Pond Cottage at that time and began the long process of transforming the former agricultural buildings into a home.
After a later period during which the cottage stood unoccupied and fell into disrepair, Nicky reacquired the property in 2020. Over the next four years, she carefully rebuilt and restored Pond Cottage, reclaiming the gardens from brambles, bindweed, and years of neglect, and re-establishing it once again as a much-loved family home.
Now fully renovated, Pond Cottage blends comfort with rustic character, set within a classic English country garden for guests to enjoy.
